This is a time where you and the counselor determine what if any course of action is best suited for your current mental health needs. This assessment process can be as simple as a fifty minute interview session or a series of psychological testing procedures over a period of sessions. The length of the assessment is determined by your specific needs. Keep in mind that you are always involved in the process. If you are coming to an agency for some “general” counseling the initial screening session is typically all that is needed to get started with counseling sessions. However if you are coming in to determine if you fit criteria for a mental health disorder, the diagnostic interview might be more than a simple fifty minute session. Once again, you will be made aware of all of the options at the end of the initial screening and it will be up to you how you wish to proceed.

Each report contains evaluation results, diagnosis, treatment plan, prognosis and possible complications to treatment success. The evaluation process typically takes from two to three weeks.
